Contra Costa County Bail Bonds

When a person is arrested in Contra Costa and taken to jail, the person will be held in jail until the date of his or her trial unless he or she can get out of jail on their own recognizance or on bond. If a person is given the option of getting out of jail on bond, the person will be required to pay a certain amount of money to the courts in exchange for the release.
After the defendant fulfills a full legal obligation to the courts by attending all trials, the defendant will receive a refund of the bond amount. If the defendant had help paying the bond, the person or people that helped him will receive a refund.
The bail amount is determined by a bail rate schedule. This bail rate schedule is established by a panel of judges and is reviewed on an annual basis. The rate schedule is the same for all counties across California, including Contra Costa. However, each different crime has a different rate amount associate with it.

In order to pay bail, many individuals will use the services of a bail bonding agency. The bail bonding agency is in place to provide the full funding for the bail amount to the defendant. The bail bonding agency will then charge the defendant a down payment for its services, which is usually about ten percent of the total cost of the bail. The bail bonding agent will also need collateral from the defendant.

If the defendant fails to show up to court, the bail bonding agency will lose the money that it had provided the defendant for the bail bond. Thus, the bail bonding agency will collect on the collateral that the defendant had provided to the agency. The bail bonding agency may also enforce its right to track down and rearrest the defendant.

When the bail bonding agency enlists the services of a bounty hunter, the bounty hunter will go after the defendant, rearrest him, and return him to jail. In most cases, the defendant will not be eligible for release again on bail after he failed to appear once. The U.S. is also the only country in the world that still allows legalized bounty hunting.
