Santa Barbara County Bail Bonds

The Santa Barbara bail rates are the same as all counties across the state of California, though they vary from legal offense to legal offense. When a person is arrested and taken to jail in Santa Barbara, the person will often be given the opportunity to get out of jail on bail. In such a case, the person will be charged the same bail amount as defendants for the same crime across the state.

Bail is a monetary surety to the courts that the defendant will fulfill the legal obligation, which may involve attending multiple court sessions and consulting regularly with a parole officer. When the defendant fulfills the full legal obligation, the bail amount will be returned to the payee.

Many defendants do not have enough money available to pay the full amount of the bail. In such cases, the defendant may call upon a bail bonding agency for its services. A bail bonding agency will provide the defendant with the full amount of the bail bond in exchange for a down payment for its services.

The down payment that most bail bonding agencies charge is about ten percent of the total cost of the bail. If a bail amount is $10,000, then a defendant may have to pay a down payment of about $1,000 for the bail bonding service. In addition to the down payment, most bail bonding agencies also collect assets that they will hold onto as collateral. The bail bonding agency will turn over these assets if the defendant fulfills the full legal obligation. However, if the defendant fails to fulfill the full legal obligation, then the bal bonding agency may take possession of the assets.

When a defendant fails to appear in court or fails to fulfill a legal obligation, the defendant will lose assets and be charged additional fees by the bail bonding agency. This is because the bail bonding agency only receives a refund of the bail bond amount if the defendant fulfills a full legal obligation. Therefore, the bail bonding agency may also use a bounty hunter to track the defendant down. In many cases, the bail bonding agency will receive a refund for its services if the bounty hunter is able to rearrest the defendant and return him or her to court.
